Event Details

The Best of the Best of Western Australia's young composers have works performed in a night that celebrates all that is adventurous and accomplished in the new breed.

The program features the premiere of a new work commissioned by the Tura New Music/WAAPA Commissioning Prize for 2008 awarded to Chris de Groot.

The work encompasses Chris's collaboration with filmmaker Mat de Koning. Concerned less with the linear narrative trajectory of commercial cinema and more with providing an immersive experience, de Koning and de Groot seek to go beyond the possibilities of a single image and a single screen by utilising multiple visual projections and live sound manipulation to explore the relationship between sound and vision.

Believing sound to be as important as vision, they offer a rare experience of music liberated from servitude to cinema.
