Event Details

The vibrant blend of music, talent and scholarship of Camerata Academica of the Antipodes returns to Sydney with a concert featuring selections from Mozart’s joyous Violin concerto in G and Marriage of Figaro, alongside the Baroque brilliance of Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico and Op. 12 (prepared from the first edition) and vocal and instrumental music from Telemann and Handel. The ensemble delves into the 19th century with the rarely performed and thrilling showpiece, Nachez’ Gypsy Dances for violin and orchestra.

The concert will also premier new music for piano by young Australian composer Leon Coward, whose chopin-esque style has received international recognition, and whose recent work includes the filmscore for the internationally successful Canadian short-film 2BR02B: To Be or Naught To Be (dir. Marco Checa-Garcia).

Praised for their ‘auditory feast of musical works for string instruments and voice’ (UK Criticks May 2016), under the direction of musicologist-performer Dr Imogen Coward, this special 3rd anniversary programme features the instrumentalists and singers of the Camerata, including soloists James Tarbotton (concertmaster Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble), Chris Porteous (violin), Laura Chung (violin), and Taliesin Coward (violin/voice), the ensemble’s resident 19th century specialist.

Profits from this concert support the Australian Children's Music Foundation.

Featured non-Australian music: Mozart, Nachez, Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel
