Campbelltown Arts Centre is presenting a contemporary Australian music performance Conversations on Saturday 26 September at 8pm. Conversations will be recorded live by ABC Classic FM. There will be a free two hour masterclass prior to the performance from 3 – 5pm. Places are limited for the masterclass and bookings are essential.
Conversations presents music that relates to communication and includes works by Aboriginal hip hop artist Wire MC and acclaimed didgeridoo player William Barton. Conversations will premiere a new work by Campbelltown Arts Centre’s composer in residence Mary Finsterer, under the artistic direction of classical saxophonist Christina Leonard, who will perform with the chamber ensemble The Collective and guest artist Wire MC. Conversations will be an interactive performance, where freestyle rapping plays off contemporary classic music.
The Collective includes some of Australia’s most recognised chamber musicians including Christina Leonard, Sophie Cole on violin, Bernadette Balkus on piano, Daniel Yeadon on cello and Claire Edwardes on percussion. The Collective performs music in new and interesting frameworks and represents Australian chamber music at its best.
The masterclass will be conducted by Mary Finsterer, The Collective and Wire MC, and has been developed for senior high school music students and tertiary music students. The masterclass will explore the relationship between composition, words and music
