Event Details
Exoplanet is a work that explores the epic scale and sense of wonder inherent in mankind’s search of extreme landscapes of the cosmos. The capabilities of the technology astronomers are developing to demystify the unknown depths of space is evolving exponentially. In this spirit of discovery and innovation, the saxophone is extended throughout the work to create musical sounds and textures both familiar and alien. This concerto makes a speculative and fantastic interpretation of what might be out there; uncanny worlds bordering the very limits of humankind’s imagination; an ode to the awe and disorienting cosmic insignificance felt when gazing at the night sky. Combined with a world premiere from the unique jazz-stylings of Sydney's Karen Lemon and a zany celebration of life by Kris Spike, Davey's Hoedown, along with an Australian premiere of a famously dazzling flute concertino by Krzysztof Komeda.
Featured non-Australian music: Debussy - Premiere Rhapsody; Laurisden arr. Dostal (premiere arrangement) - O Magnum Mysterium; Komeda Svantetic (Aus premiere)
