Carrying on a long-held tradition of carol-singing, UNSW’s massed choir – the Collegium Musicum – is pleased to present its annual Festival of Carols this November 24. To bring the 38th year of choral singing at UNSW to a close, the concert will celebrate the centenary of the birth of one of the finest choral composers of the twentieth century, Benjamin Britten, as well as the usual jubilation from communal carols, handbells and plenty of seasonal festivity. The concert features a brand new work for choir, semi chorus and piano by emerging Australian composer Jonathan Billingham, entitled A Promise. Join choral director Sonia Maddock, pianist Patrick Keith and the Collegium Musicum Choir in the Sir John Clancy Auditorium for an evening of festive cheer, homemade ginger bread and great music.
Performers: Collegium Musicum Choir Burgundian Consort UNSW Handbell Ensemble Louise Johnson (harp) Patrick Keith (piano) Peter Ellis (organ)
Featured non-Australian music: BRITTEN - A Ceremony of Carols; BRITTEN - Hymn to St Cecilia
