Flinders Quartet "Time's Arrow"
Connecting works by Greenbaum, Britten and Beethoven is more than an exercise in lineage: together they tell a powerful story of how musical ideas evolve. Britten writes of Beethoven: “Between the ages of thirteen to sixteen, I knew every note of Beethoven.” Greenbaum says of Britten’s second string quartet: “I hadn’t seen the score but I couldn’t resist the moto perpetuo energy and drive that I remembered from a single hearing. I just had to see where I could take these techniques for myself.”
