Event Details
Rubiks launch their 2019 season with ‘Glitch’ – a collection of works exploring how technology can reveal, obscure and transform our perceptions and innermost desires. In pieces featuring Skype recordings, amplified choreography and a malfunctioning boombox, Rubiks uncover the rambunctious toy piano escapades of Julia Wolfe’s ‘East Broadway’ and the intimate, evocative sound worlds of Neo Hülcker’s ‘Crackles’ for bodies on stage.
At the centre of this event is the world premiere of ‘Selfless’ – a stunningly personal work by composers Allison Wright (AU) and Bec Plexus (NL), featuring video and projections by Fagan Wilcox (AU) and new media artist Xuan (US).
BONUS: As proud partners of CutCommon, Rubiks will be offering free copies of the magazine’s second print edition to Glitch audience members. This event is generously supported by the City Of Port Phillip Cultural Development Fund and Creative Victoria.
Rubiks Collective: Flutes - Tamara Kohler; Cello - Gemma Kneale; Keyboards - Jacob Abela; Percussion - Kaylie Melville
Featured non-Australian music: Anna Clyne - Fits + Starts, Neo Hülcker – Crackles, Julia Wolfe – East Broadway, Bec Plexus - Selfless (Part 1)
