Macbeth is a new one-act chamber opera with music by Luke Styles. Directed by Ted Huffman, the performance will showcase soloists from the Glyndebourne Chorus and the Jerwood Young Artists programme.
Australia-born, UK-based composer Luke Styles became Glyndebourne’s first Young Composer in Residence in 2011 and held the post until 2014, with operatic works during his residency including Lovers Walk (2012) and Wakening Shadow (2013). Other theatre works include the acclaimed Handspun (ROH2, 2012), in collaboration with aerialist Ilona Jäntti, and the acerbic cabaret opera Unborn in America (2015).
For Macbeth Styles collaborates with American director Ted Huffman, who has also adapted the libretto from Shakespeare’s play. Huffman studied at Yale and on San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program; his work includes acclaimed productions of Cavalli’s Giasone and Peter Maxwell Davies’s The Lighthouse for English Touring Opera.
