New North presents an unmissable evening of music featuring six electroacoustic works by acclaimed Australian composer, Anthony Pateras. A Dread of Voids are a quintet of musicians all practising highly personal languages within the landscape of contemporary music. United here as a loose collective performing pieces specifically written for them by Anthony Pateras, this concert explores electroacoustic orchestration, auditory hallucination and polytemporality across multiple sonic contexts. For over two decades Pateras has developed a unique musical language situated at the nexus of notation, improvisation and electronics. Consistently diverse in practice, his work interrogates contemporary classical, experimental, soundtrack and rock idioms. For this occasion he has assembled some of his closest collaborators to present a program of intimate psychoacoustic works, creating sonic illusions through delicate orchestration and tape manipulations.
