Event Details
Night Shift is a composition involving audience participation and based around the idea of connecting people to music, above all music of today. This is the fifth performance of Night Shift. As with previous editions, a local choir has co-created one of the numbers, and there is a prominent part for the audience, which involves various instruments provided upon arrival and rehearsed with the composer and on-stage performers at the beginning. It was commissioned as part of an initiative by the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne entitled CONNECT- the Audience as Artist and awarded to chosen composers as, “a new panEuropean initiative to commission and promote a new work that requires public participants to be an inextricable part of the performance of the music”… and which is devised “to engage directly and actively with the public or audience in an innovative way.” Night Shift is the third commission of its kind for the Art Mentor Foundation. Four leading European ensembles of international reputation have been participating, and each committed to the performance of all works composed including Night Shift. They are London Sinfonietta (London), Asko Schoenberg (Amsterdam), Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt) and Remix Ensemble Casa da Música (Porto).
