Event Details
Conducted by Paul Dean, the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will perform Bottesini’s Double Bass Concerto No.2 with the principal bassist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Phoebe Russell, as soloist. This concerto is one of the most performed solo works for bass and demonstrates the full range of the bass, with virtuosic playing from the soloist. In a coup for the orchestra, we will also give the Queensland and Brisbane premieres of Australian composer, James Ledger’s, Signal Lost. The final work in the concert is Sibelius’ Symphony No.5, which boasts one of the greatest finales of all time.
Featured non-Australian music: Giovanni Bottesini - Double Bass Concerto No. 2; Jean Sibelius - Symphony No. 5
