Event Details
Ta Go Lak’s high-energy percussive music explores improvisational areas that emerge in response to Korean folk and shamanic traditions and rhythmic textures found in the Pacific. Traversing the full sound and energy spectrum from meditative elements to resounding gongs and explosive climaxes, Ta Go Lak contrast traditional folk instruments with full modern drumkits. Led by cellist, bassist and vocalist Mary Rapp, Napology combines brute strength, jazz virtuosity, rock emotion and noisy catharsis. Drawing upon influences from D’Angelo’s Voodoo to Alas No Axis, Bill Frisell and Miles Davis, their live shows are known for intense sonic landscapes of the Radiohead ilk, the rhythmic bombast of Squarepusher or Caetano Veloso, and the harmonic depth and improvisational freedom of a Keith Jarrett concert.
