- Tickets: $15/$10
Formed by Andrew Brooks (saxophones/electronics), Perth’s Brett Thompson (guitar/effects) and James McLean (drums), this trio focuses on developing sonic landscapes that are at times both electronic and acoustic, spontaneously improvised and dense and sparse. Drawing on free improvisation, ambient electronica and experimental rock, these three young musicians aim to create music that is evocative in mood and atmosphere and that explores the textural possibilities of electronic instruments co-existing with acoustic ones. Influences include Ben Frost, Swans, Band of 5 Names, the Necks and Aphex Twin, to name a few.
Brett Thompson is based in Perth where he currently performs with musicians such as Jamie Oehlers, Ben Vanderwal, Callum G'Froerer and Johannes Leubbers. Andrew Brooks is the co-leader of _motion who have just released their debut album, Presence. He also performs regularly with Tony Gould, ATM 15, the Andrew Murray Quartet and the Sarah McKenzie Quartet, among others. James McLean is currently completing a music degree at the Victorian College of the Arts. He performs regularly with some of Australia's leading improvisers including: Scott Tinkler, Julien Wilson and Marc Hannaford.
