The Halftides is the latest project from drummer Phil Collings, a quartet premiered for the MJC in the middle of last year with Julien Wilson (tenor sax), Colin Hopkins (piano) and Tamara Murphy (acoustic bass). Originally from Canberra, drummer Phil Collings played with Dale Barlow, Sandy Evans, and Mike Nock while based there. Since moving here in 1998, he has performed with Tom Fryer, Tim O'Dwyer, Ren Walters, Dan West, Will Guthrie, Jex Saarelaht and Phil Bywater, as well as leading his own ensembles to perform his compositions. He recorded the Fourthcoming album with the HarDi&Co. project (a co-operative trio with saxophonist Guy Harvey and bassist Frank Di Sario). This new project was recorded last year by ABC-FM Jazztrack, featuring compositions from each member and deconstructed works by Lou Bennett and Daniel Johns.
