Event Details
This major new piano initiative asks: Is the piano sonata relevant to music of the 21st century? Why are so few piano sonatas written by (Australian) female composers? How important is it for a performer to be continually updated by the values, attitudes and choices of modern composers? What is the future of classical piano music? These and other intriguing questions are to be explored by the Australian concert pianist Bernadette Harvey, as part of The Sonata Project – a major piano initiative to be launched on 11 November 2017 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The Sonata Project features world premieres of piano sonatas, commissioned by Bernadette with the assistance of the Australia Council for the Arts and in collaboration with Fazioli Pianos, Con Brio and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Students and teachers – this is a new approach to classical music!
