Sheet Music: Score
a golden string : for treble solo and mixed, spatialised voices / Chris Williams ; text by William Blake.
by Chris Williams (2012)
The entire piece stems from a single melodic line (the golden thread), and this dictates the structure of the rest of the piece. Instigated by the solo treble, or soprano, this line is transformed into an enormous, synthetic echo around the space in an intricate, ever increasing canon.
The piece has been written in such a way to facilitate numerous interpretations and variable ensembles. Suggested timings are offered, however, the length of 'unmeasured' aspects of the score should be adjusted to suit the individual performance as they will depend on the number of singers, size of the space, and desired length of the performance. While the process of development is strictly indicated, its length may vary, as needed. Alterations of duration lengths and cues are left to the best discretion of the performers.
