Sheet Music: Score
Bluebird : for solo piano / Rae Howell.
by Rae Howell (2002)
Bluebird was created origianlly as a spoken word & music piece for the German/Australian theatre production 'Einst zu einer Zeit' ('Once Upon a Time') in Erlangen Germany.. it tells the story of a deep, dark forest, where a tall castle tower stands with a little window at the top. Trapped inside the tower, was a very old man. So old, he looked like a piles of dusty bones. He had been trapped in a castle tower for as long as he could remember, never to see the world outside his stone walls. One day a Bluebird is flying through the forest and comes to perch on the window above his head in tending to build her nest there. The old man asks if the bluebird can tell him what is outside.. the bluebird, leaving a twig beneath the old man's nose, and in the most beautiful whistle he has ever heard, explains of the beauty of an amazing, enchanted forest, as far as the eye can see, a most amazing site.. And with that the old man closes his eyes and peacefully sleeps forever, content he now knows what lies beyond.
