Product details

Dew Falling...Torrent Flowing was initially inspired by the base material from a movement titled Dew Falling, from my song cycle Moonless Night. The initial idea was to use the same material to create a more substantial piece of music for soprano saxophone.

Whilst composing the second movement (which was composed first), the initial meaning of "dew falling" had become extended in terms of the development of the thematical and structural material so much that it came to represent the rapid flow of water. To further compound this meaning, the middle movement was also composed during the time of the Queensland floods in January 2011. This piece has become a reflection of that time.

The first movement takes on the meaning of "dew falling", where the water begins to drip down slowly and settle before running; and the third movement, which shares much of the material from the first movement is a reflection.
