Sheet Music: ScoreRob's rag : for organ / Ann Carr-Boyd.by Ann Carr-Boyd (2014)

Product details
Rob's Rag contains harmonies that remind me of times
gone by, when people went to halls and village centres to dance
to the two-‐‑step, the waltz, the tango and many other popular
dance forms. Ragtime was the forerunner of rock and roll and
achieved great popularity worldwide in the hands of composers
such as Scott Joplin. The Rag has had a strong revival in the
late 20th and 21st centuries -‐‑ and it
is easy to see why, when this form offers a chance for a variety
of moods in the one short, succinct statement.
Rob's Rag follows in the footsteps of many other Ragtime
pieces, in offering melodies set with the familiar syncopated
rhythm, and a rhythmic drive which is evident throughout. The
section in D flat major presents a nostalgic melody which dips in
and out of semitones in the same way as a Victorian handkerchief
wafting the scent of lavender. The C minor section is equally
nostalgic with its falling melodies and plaintive major and minor
thirds.
This Rag was composed in 2014 for my long-‐time friend and
colleague Rob Goode AM, a musician who is equally at home playing
harpsichord, piano and organ.
