Digital Sheet Music [PDF]: ScoreSpace, Is Anybody Out There? : a work for solo violin, morse code and tape [eScore] / Cathy Applegate.by Cathy Applegate (2018)
|
Product details
The work is inspired by sounds from space collected by NASA -
these are incorporated into the backing tape. The rhythm of the
piece is taken from the morse code derived from the text "Hello?
Is anybody out there? Cooee! Hello? Cooee! Is anybody out
there?"
Morse code has very strict rules for the number of beats per dot,
dash, and the gaps between letters and words. The work follows
this faithfully and each letter has it's own bar and motif. The
middle section is freer before returning to the dot-dash rhythm.
The performance starts with a short introduction by the tape that
includes a dramatic statement in morse code before the violin
enters.
