Product details

Time and the Tides uses instruments from the docklands of the bay, including 60, 100 and 200 litre steel shipping drums, as well as found objects from the beaches such as takeaway containers filled with shells and bottles. Fishermen's tackle, including plastic containers filled with lead sinkers is also part of the instrumentation.

The dynamics, rhythms, textures and register used in the music are connected to the rate of change of tide levels, and their relative highs and lows in Westernport Bay before the winter solstice in 2008, when the changes are more extreme.

The music is inspired by the motion of seawater in the Bays, and the Bunerong Aboriginal story about the rising levels in Port Phillip Bay, as told by Aboriginal elder Caroline Briggs.
