Work Overview
It was a pleasure to be asked by the Freshwater Trio to celebrate Mendelssohn's life in 2009, the bicentennial celebration of his birth, by arranging one of his Songs without Words. This version of op.85, no. 2 for Piano Trio is slower and elongated, marked Moderato to the original Allegro agitato. Slowed down, the melancholy nature of this piece is magnified. If Mendelssohn's piece is an attempt to flee solitude, my arrangement is a calm and accepting meditation on it.
