Work Overview
The songs are from a book of poems by Kenneth Slessor, OBE, (1901-1971), entitled Darlighurst Nights. In 1927 Slessor, joined the Sydney-based, nationally distributed tabloid newspaper Smith's Weekly as a journalist. Soon after, his poetry began to appear in the paper as a weekly event. Later he collated these 47 poems into a book, titled Darlighurst Nights. The book was 1st published by Frank Johnson in 1933.
