Work Overview
Erlinton is one of eight pieces that comprise The Child Ballads, a song-cycle by Andrew Robson. Each piece in the cycle is based on the text of a traditional folksong text sourced from F.J.Child's 'The English and Scottish Popular Ballads'. Only the texts for each of these ballads has survived and Robson has set all eight to new music. While strongly influenced by the traditional narratives these pieces also leave some scope for improvisation.
