Work Overview
It was an aeroplane going from Australia to the US, and of course it was heavy anyway, and it only seemed fast, much faster than its music. It made me wonder about how hard it can be to move things, and how much weight is attached to memories, relationships, notions of home, and so on, that Alex Carpenter would be carrying in his mind on the plane, and I wished him well sincerely, not wanting to hold him back, but wanting to get all that heavy stuff airborne as gently and slowly and carefully as possible, in a slow ascent, measured and unbroken, then cruising, with an almost disquieting total absence of turbulence, and finally descending into JFK International, parallel and antipodal to take off. It would all go as planned.
