Work Overview

Time: Christmas Day

Place: Somewhere in Australia

The four grown-up children of the family have gathered, with Eleanor's spouse and Peg's friend Scratch, for the traditional celebration of Christmas. The ghosts of the parents look on, surrounded by a chorus of sympathetic spirits. Carols punctuate the action throughout.

Although this is an opera in one act, an interval may be included.

Instrumentation: Voices, 2 flutes (1 doubling piccolo), 2 oboes (1 doubling cor anglais), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, timpani, percussion, harp, strings.
