Sea, frogs and magpies / Jon Drummond
Work Overview
In 1994 I made some recordings of Striped Marsh Frogs from the North coast of NSW. At the time the marsh was filled with the incessant 'tocks' made by the frogs, together with magpie calls and the background sounds of the ocean.
I took this recording and started transforming, analysing and resynthesising the sounds. Using a technique known as phase vocoding, I was able to extract and swap the spectrums of the sounds recorded. In this manner I tried to created an inter-related sound world, often far removed from the original sounds. I have tried to arrange these sounds to construct their own narrative and associations.
