Composed on the birth of my daughter, this Lullaby uses deliberately simple material to evoke the peacefully cocooned world of a newly born child. Primarily exploiting the lydian mode, the work layers melodic ideas over a persistent rising two-note motif in the glockenspiel and gentle harp arpeggios.
Instrumentation: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B flat, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in F, glockenspiel, vibraphone, strings.
Duration: 9 min.
First performance: by Kambala School Orchestra — 2001. Alexander Hall, Kambala.
- In the form/style of: Lullaby
