My first set of Bassoon Abbreviations aims to give advanced players some exercises to extend their experience beyond traditional repertoire. Different forms of rhythmic dexterity are called for, a large range, exciting and demanding fast passages, and some slower-moving, lyrical pieces. At the same time, I wanted to incorporate contemporary pop culture influences, as a means of inspiring performers to explore new styles. It's also a bit of fun!
Duration: 6 min.
Difficulty: Medium — Playable by VCE students (year 11-12)
First performance: by Matthew Angus — 12 Jul 16. Knox Community Arts Centre, Melbourne
