Work Overview
This is a typeset version, with minor revisions, of 3 movements from the piano suite Espana by Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909) for brass quintet. In general I have adhered to the spirit, idiom and harmonic language of the original. The five instruments are treated as equal actors in the textures and there are bold coloristic gestures involving the use of mutes. The work is inspired by the virtuosity of professional ensembles such as the Canadian Brass. The 3 movements are to be played segue with brief pauses to allow for instrument and muting changes.
