by David Hush (2007)
Score SampleView a sample of the score of this work
This piece was written for one of the most remarkable bassoonists and wind players in the history of Australian music: John Cran.
While Canticles contains some difficult figurations, the real test of the piece is not one of conventional virtuosity but of a supreme mastery of tone that only an expert such as John Cran can bring to this work.
The melodic narrative weaves through variegated musical landscapes and atmospheres, ranging from the Jewish cantorial through to jazz.
Duration: 4 min.
Dedication note: Dedicated to John Cran
