RiverBed is the path that the sounds carve out across time, through a continuous interactivity that has not been pre-determined, and is not driven towards any final aim; rather, the process that the sound-elements establish is an articulation of an energy, as the behavior of the sound is quasi-biological in its nature: unpredictable, yet absolutely consistent. In essence, it is music that is not in any form, but is a FORMATION unfolding in time, in order to reach its own limit.
Instrumentation: Flute, guitar, harp, violin.
Duration: 8 min.
RiverBed was composed as part of a project involving a large-scale work, commissioned by ELISION ensemble, integrating a succession of three quartet-structures and an extended unfolding for solo piano. The large-scale work is entitled The Source Within, and RiverBed is the first of the quartets. The project was realised with the support from ArtsWA and Australia Council.
