Score SampleView a sample of the score of this work
This is a short virtuosic chamber work which was to some extent suggested to the composer by reflections on the First Players speech from Shakespeare's Hamlet act 2 scene 2. The music reflects both the violence and the tragedy of bereavement that are portrayed within the speech. Naturally these reflections in the music exist at a notional level and the music in no way parallels or mimics the Shakespearean text.
Instrumentation: Flute, clarinet, percussion, piano.
Duration: 9 min.
Dedication note: Dedicated to Kupka's Piano
Commission note: Commissioned by Kupka's Piano.
The composer has noted the following about this work:
Atonal with some metrical complexities
