Work Overview
The idea for this cycle came out of a regular coffee meeting of friends, to which Yve Louis had brought a new poem for the rest of us to look at. It immediately struck me that it would make an ideal text for a musical setting, and the clarity of the imagery Yve had used appealed to me. As I worked on the piece it occurred to me that I would like to have Ruth Strutt sing it, so when I'd completed writing the music I asked Ruth to look at it. I'm very grateful to her for agreeing to sing the first performance. The piece was finally completed (with revisions) on 3 April 2013. I thank Yve Louis for her gracious permission to use the poem in this setting.
