Work Overview
This Mass setting was requested by the Church of St John the Evangelist in Gordon NSW. It is a setting of the text from A Prayer Book for Australia (1995) and of a celebratory nature. It also includes the Trisagion and the Catholic acclamations to enable use in the Anglican or Catholic traditions. The work is for congregation and organ with optional four-part choral parts. Movements are essentially character pieces. The Gloria and Credo have a refrain so that even if a cantor or choir sings the 'verses', the congregation can easily actively participate. The refrain repeats at the opening of each movement to facilitate learning. The Lord's Prayer is set as a repeating melodic unit. The organ part requires a relatively competent organist and will work on a modest two manual organ, although markings are given for a larger instrument so a hint of the tonal palate to be featured in the section might be gained. It is hoped you will enjoy singing this Mass setting as we together celebrate Christ's presence with us as we approach him in Eucharist.
