In the work Pretty Lightweight, the music plays alongside a laughter track. Although pre-recorded laughter is normally used to highlight jokes on television shows and in novelty tunes, the joke/laugh, stimulus/response model has been largely avoided here in attempt to get the music and the laughter track to cancel each other's semantic weight out.
Instrumentation: Flute in C, viola, cello, laughter track, playback, mono loudspeaker.
Duration: 7 min.
Dedication note: Dedicated to Klangforum Wien
Commission note: Commissioned by Künstlerhaus Boswil, Switzerland
First performance: by Klangforum Wien — Nov 01. Paul Sacher-Haller Basel, Switzerland
