Australian music on ABC Classic FM in October 2013
This month ABC Classic FM presents seven live concerts from the 2013 Young Performers Awards. Tune in to hear twelve of Australia's best young musicians perform works by Carl Vine, Margaret Sutherland, John Exton, Ross Edwards, Joe Chindamo, Wilfred Lehmann, Elena Kats-Chernin, Brian Buggy, Peter Sculthorpe and Miriam Hyde.
New Music Up Late presents three concerts from the inaugural Earin Festival. The festival brings brilliantly presented new music together with some of the country's most intriguing visual artists. The first concert 'Born of Cultural Dislocation' explores ideas of belonging, identity and place, with new works by Nicholas Denison, David Harris and David Kotlowy. The second concert 'Ryoan-Ji' is inspired by the Zen aesthetic of wabi-sabi, and includes works by David Kotlowy, Michael Kieran Harvey, Stephen Whittington and David Harris. And the final concert 'Whaam!' explores music concerned with pop culture, including new works by David Kotlowy, Kat McGuffie and David Harris.
Also featured this month are several concerts from the 2013 Melbourne Festival including the world premiere of James Hullick's post-apocalyptic chamber opera Bruchlandung. And there's another chance to hear Conversations with Ghosts by Paul Kelly and James Ledger from the 2012 Melbourne Festival.
