Australian Music on ABC Classic FM in September 2012
September concert broadcasts on ABC Classic FM include the world premiere of a new string quintet by Gordon Kerry, plus a performance of Kerry's String Quartet and several performances of music by Carl Vine, Elena Kats-Chernin and Brett Dean, plus chamber music of Paul Stanhope, Wilfred Lehmann and Calvin Bowman, and the choral music of Stephen Leek, Ben van Tienen, Paul Jarman, Julie & Paul Bevan and Daniel Walker.
On New Music Up Late for the John Cage centenary we present lots of Australian performances of that influential American's music from the likes of Clocked Out (QLD), Decibel (WA), Ensemble Offspring (NSW), Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey with over 500 Melbourne performers (VIC), The Song Company (NSW) and Jessica Aszodi and co (VIC), plus Australian responses, reworkings and alternatives to the Cagean paradigm from Chris Mann, Jon Rose and his Sound Circus, Lawrence English and Scott Morrison, Colin Bright, Matthew Shlomowitz, David Young, Stephen Adams, and Michael Smetanin.
Online we're podcasting from Sound Circus - a voyage into the Australian interior (north of Broken Hill) with Jon Rose and his intrepid band of experimental musicians. And check out our classic/amp collection of Australian music recordings from the archives where the latest additions are Richard Meale's solo piano work Coruscations from 1971 and Waiting to turn into puzzles by David Young.
