An early German film has been given a soundtrack, writes Iain Shedden

ELENA Kats-Chernin's music has resonated in many concert halls during her 25 years as a composer, but never as accompaniment to a silent film.

That will change in two weeks at the Sydney Film Festival, when her work for the landmark German silent feature Menschen am Sonntag (People on Sunday) (1930) is performed live at the State Theatre.
