Bacchanals were the legendary rites of riotous and drunken revelry attributed to the Greco-Roman god of wine, Bacchus. His spirit is invoked in this suite for symphonic wind band through its sense of abandon and unremitting dance-like energy. Traditional Baroque and Classical suite movements have been adopted as templates upon which my less traditional musical ideas could be developed. This dance suite is a hybrid of old and new elements.
Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, clarinet in E flat, 3 clarinets in B flat, bass clarinet in B flat, 2 bassoons, 2 alto saxophones in E flat, tenor saxophone in B flat, baritone saxophone in E flat, 2 horns in F, 3 trumpets in C (parts also available in B flat), 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, euphonium (part available in treble clef), tuba, double bass, timpani, percussion (3 players).
