Diverse, contemporary, passionate, groundbreaking, weird...During the first decade of virtuoso keyboard player Cathie Travers' career she worked as a rock musician in hotels, gained a B.Mus from the Uni of WA, studied with leading pianists in the UK & USA, and performed with the MSO and WASO in the national finals of the Young Performers Awards. But by 1987 her interest in becoming a concert pianist had become diluted by her passions for electronic music in particular, and new music in general.

Travers has since developed a formidable reputation as both a performer and composer – her works having been performed around Australia, in Canada, the USA and in Japan. Her most recent solo piano work, ALyx–er, was premiered by Michael Kieran–Harvey on the millenium New Years Eve in a TV extravaganza involving 60 participating international broadcasters.

As a multi–keyboardist performing (predominantly Australian) new art–music, Cathie has performed with a variety of artists, such as Robyn Archer, Midori Takada, WASO 20th Century Ensemble, Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, Nova Ensemble, Chrissie Parrott Dance Company, Magnetic Pig, 2Dance–Plus, Skadada, Roger Smalley and Fieldworks – all at national arts festivals (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth), for ABC radio programs and numerous WA arts events.

Travers' career as an accordionist commenced late in 1992. Since 1997, when she finally had the good sense to take some lessons, Cathie has written a number of works which include accordion and electronics. Cathie is now the proud owner of 3 accordions, and is always on the lookout for more buttons to push, in combinations and permutations of the wildest imaginings.

Much of 2000 and 2001 is being devoted to a collaboration with SiN [the Cyber Romantic in PVC glam], on a multi–part cyber–electronic opera titled Utopia Dissolve, which ultimately will consist of segments for live performance, and some segments for the Web. PhanTom DATA, Cathie's most recent orchestral work, was premiered at the Perth Concert Hall in June 2000 by West Australian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Verbitsky.
