Event Details
Saint-Saëns's Septet is a rare chamber work that features trumpet with string ensemble and, like much of the composer's music, mixes 'Bach with Offenbach.' Szymanowski's musical language is complex and ornate, and his first String Quartet, of 1917, is a compelling example of his exotic impressionism, inflected with the language of folk song.
One of Australia's most distinguished composers, Brenton Broadstock will become the Orchestra's Composer in Residence for 2009. Hall of Mirrors, written especially for the MSO Chamber Players, features prominent writing for the instrument Broadstock grew up playing, the trombone.
The work was written by Brenton Broadstock as the MSO's Composer in Residence for 2009. His Composer Fellowship with the MSO has been created in association with the Vice Chancellor's Fellowship Programme at the University of Melbourne.
Featured non-Australian music: Saint-Saƫns, Szymanowski
