Fancy Me Dead : a chamber opera in one act

by Paul Smith (2015)

Work Overview

This one act chamber opera is a dark comedy for soprano and mezzo. The plot follows the lunch meeting of two doyennes of a struggling upholstery business trying to save their company. An unexpected visitor in the form of a dead body sees their relationship unravel as they hurl insults, accusations and sandwiches at oneanother. The score draws on cabaret and musical theatre idioms within a darkly expressive contemporary sound world.
