Gabriel Fromyhr : Associate Artist
Gabriel Fromyhr is an emerging Cellist, Viola da Gamba player and
composer from Canberra/Yass in Ngunnawal country. Currently in
his 3rd year of study in Performance at the ANU School of music,
playing both modern and Baroque cello, Gabriel is a student of
David Pereira, but also studies with Csaba Szilvay and Danny
Yeadon on occasion. Gabriel also studies composition with Dr
Christopher Sainsbury.
Gabriel has played as a soloist and chamber musician with various
ensembles in Canberra such as the ANU chamber orchestra and
Musica Da Camera, as well as played in various early music
ensembles.
As a composer of Yuin heritage, Gabriel is a participant in the
2023 Ngarra Burria program, and has premiere recorded Teneresi
per mano, a work by Gamiliroi composer and 2022 Ngarra Burria
composer: Troy Russell, with Edward Neeman on piano.
Gabriel has premiered several new Australian works (including
Wandering Hearts Cello version by Elena Kats Chernin) and
combines new works with his activity with early music and
historically informed performance.
