Largely self taught, Alan studied privately with the late Dr Allan Zavod, before scoring 25 films over a 27-year period; including two feature films The Alive Tribe (1997) and The Real Thing (2000). Inbetween film-scoring jobs Alan Griffiths continued composing art music.
In 2015 Alan began producing his own albums and concerts with the release of his acclaimed debut solo piano album Introspection.
Ukrainian/Australian pianist Evgeny Ukhanov performed Introspection's sold out World Premiere at the 2016 Stuart & Sons Spring Concert Series at Crispe Family Galleries in Yass, New South Wales, Australia. Introspection went on to attract glowing overseas reviews.
The international ANZCA Music Examinations chose 15 of Alan's piano pieces for inclusion in their 2018 - 2027 pianoforte syllabus. ANZCA also sponsored two of Alan's concerts in Melbourne and Christchurch, New Zealand.
Alan's 2018 Rare View World Premiere at Beleura House launched the world's first 108-key Stuart & Sons Concert Grand Piano. SONY and Stuart & Sons sponsored and filmed this concert performed by Australian pianist Nicholas Young, Polish violinist Dominik Przywara and Sydney cellist George Yang.
As this first live recorded album utilised SONY's C100 Series, SONY commissioned a video about this concert. Shot by Japanese film director Kenshin Nawa for the SONY Stories series, receiving over 470,000 views.
Elkwood/SONY released the live recorded Nocturne from the concert on Native DSD.
Overseas Alan got his 'Such A Fine, Sunny Day' song-cycle to New York based international opera singer Paul Whelan.
On September 26th, 2022, Paul Whelan performed the 'Such a Fine, Sunny Day' World Premiere at The Piano Centre for Music and Arts, Christchurch, New Zealand, accompanied by Nicholas Young and New Zealand pianist Anna Maksymova.
Paul's song-cycle recording was sponsored by TM Stagetec Systems on their latest NEXUS. Stagetec is promoting a video about Alan's recording project in their 37 offices worldwide.
On November 25th 2023, Paul had his one and only Australian concert appearance at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne accompanied by Nicholas and Taiwan pianist Megoe Chen. Special Guests Australian cellist Gemma Kneale and violinist Zoe Freisberg also performed some of Alan's chamber work with Nicholas. Schimmel Pianos and Bernie's Music Land sponsored this concert.
Alan attended New Zealand Opera's inaugural New Opera Forum in April 2024.
In 2025 Alan completed his Massawa opera composed for Paul Whelan casting Paul as lead. Paul recorded its leading aria last June with Christchurch pianists Anna Maksymova and Gabriel Baird.
