Natasha Lin, known artistically as Aksuna, is an emerging
composer-pianist based in Germany. An award-winning Australian
artist, she brings a unique blend of classical virtuosity,
emotive originality, and philosophical depth to her music.
Aksuna's musical journey began at an early age, earning numerous
first prizes and national certification by the age of 17. Despite
a brief interlude as a dental student, she followed her passion
for music and continued her education at the Melbourne
Conservatorium of Music, ultimately earning a Master in Music,
followed by a Master in Music Therapy.
Aksuna's performance career spans prestigious venues, including
Sydney Town Hall, Federation Square, and Government House of
Victoria. She has collaborated with esteemed orchestras such as
the Ku-Rin-Gai Philharmonic, the Australasian Orchestra, and the
Australian Lawyers Orchestra. Her compositions have garnered
increasing recognition, including being a runner-up at the 2022
Australian Composition Competition for her guitar-duo work
Acacia, aired on ABC Classic FM. Aksuna was also a composer
finalist with FUSE: Collaborations in Song, Catalyst, and the
Boston Singers Network, where her work I remember snow was
premiered in Boston in 2023. In 2024, one of Aksuna's solo works,
Love Child, was selected for the first compilation of the music
label OPIA, released by Universal Music. In addition, she has
composed original scores for independent films, with one
nominated as a finalist at the 2022 Flickrfest, showcasing her
versatility across genres.
Aksuna's compositional voice was profoundly shaped by her brief
but impactful work as a palliative care music therapist, where
she developed an intimate understanding of music's emotional
power and its ability to connect deeply with the human spirit.
Her compositions are known for being technically demanding,
virtuosic, and emotive, yet they also carry a profound
philosophical quality. She blends classical techniques with
cinematic influences, creating a sound that resonates on both an
intellectual and emotional level. Particularly through her piano
music, she aims to increase the accessibility of today's piano
music to both the virtuosi and contemporary lovers of the
instrument, without compromising on the technical complexity that
the instrument can sometimes demand. Aksuna strives to respect
and honor the high level of technique required to master the
piano, ensuring that each composition is both intellectually
engaging and deeply evocative.
Her latest album, When Snow Melts, captures this introspective
sound, reflecting her ongoing exploration of merging technical
precision with emotional resonance.
