Ray Lin is an award-winning Australian-Chinese composer,
conductor, music director, and arranger whose music bridges
cultures and captivates audiences worldwide. His works have been
performed across the USA, UK, China, Australia, and New Zealand
by leading ensembles including the Queensland Pops Orchestra,
Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra, Nanjing Philharmonic
Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Topology, and the
Queensland Conservatorium Symphony and Wind Orchestras.
Ray has collaborated with renowned artists such as guitarist
Karin Schaupp (AUS) and pipa virtuosos Zhou Yi (USA), Lulu Liu
(AUS), and Cheng Yu (UK). His compositions have featured at major
festivals including VIVID Sydney, BrisAsia Festival, Brisbane
Festival, Antenna Film Festival, and Sydney Film Festival, and on
prestigious platforms such as ABC Classic, ABC ME, SBS, QPAC,
Brisbane City Hall, and Sydney State Theatre.
Ray was awarded Young Composer of the Year by the Willoughby
Symphony Orchestra (2024) and Emerging Composer-in-Residence with
Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra (2023). He was
commissioned by ABC in 2022 to compose Impressions of the Four
Seasons, blending Chinese and Western instruments, and premiered
a chamber work for East-West ensemble in New York the same year.
Recent highlights include the premiere of his piano-and-orchestra
work by the Nanjing Philharmonic Orchestra with pianist Kaiwei
Guo, and an upcoming premiere with the Southern Cross
Soloists.
As a conductor and music director, Ray has led performances at
London's Duke's Hall, Britten Theatre, Sydney's Verbrugghen Hall,
Brisbane City Hall and more, with appearances at the Edinburgh
Festival Fringe, BrisAsia Festival, Nanjing International Youth
Music Festival etc. His arrangements/orchestrations have been
performed by the Nanjing Philharmonic Orchestra, in the BrisAsia
Festival "Rare Voices" Concert (2023), George Ellis Orchestra's
Beatles Tribute Show (2023), Brisbane Festival's Film-Harmonic
Concert (2021-2023), and on ABC ME's Know It Alls.
Among his many accolades are Contemporary Classical Song of the
Year at the 2020 Queensland Music Awards, a 2022 David Blumberg
Award (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers), and
2nd place in the 2021 National Youth Arranging Competition (Music
Arrangers' Guild Australia). He was also a semi-finalist in the
2020 Walter Hussey Composition Competition (UK).
Ray studied composition at the Queensland Conservatorium, the
Australian Film Television and Radio School, and the Royal
College of Music, London, and was selected for The Juilliard
School's 2023 Summer Extension Program in Composition and
Conducting.
