Rebecca Lloyd-Jones : Associate Artist
Australian‑born percussionist Rebecca Lloyd‑Jones is a multiform
musician whose practice spans performance, research, and
education. Praised as "captivating" by the San Diego
Union‑Tribune, she has performed professionally across Asia,
Europe, North America, and Oceania, appearing in leading
festivals, concert halls, and contemporary music contexts
worldwide.
Rebecca has presented her work at the Percussive Arts Society
International Convention and has held artistic residencies at the
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada). Her international
performance credits include appearances at Walt Disney Concert
Hall as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Noon to Midnight
new‑music marathon, the BBC Proms, IMPULS Festival (Graz),
soundSCAPE Composition and Performance Exchange (Italy), ilSuono
(Italy), adjudicator for the IPEA International Percussion
Competition (Hong Kong) and Marimbafest (Australia), and guest
artist appearances at the VI Semana Internacional de
Improvisación and Festival de Música Nueva (Mexico).
Active across many genres, Rebecca has performed with the PARTCH
ensemble, ensemble red fish blue fish, Elision Ensemble, Speak
Percussion, Ensemble Offspring, Omega Ensemble, Hong Kong‑based
percussion quintet Up:Strike Project, and served as the Artistic
Director of Synergy Percussion from 2023-2024.
Rebecca was the 2025 Elizabeth Wood Research Fellow in Musicology
at the University of Adelaide, and is an early‑career creative
development grant recipient from the American Australian Arts
Fund. She has presented her research at the Transplanted Roots
Research Symposium (2017-2019) and served as Artistic Producer
for the 2022 and 2025 editions, held in San Diego (USA) and Porto
(Portugal), respectively. Rebecca is an AMEB examiner and has
presented at the Australian Society for Music Education National
Conference.
Rebecca graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts,
receiving the Desma Woolcock Award for Academic Excellence,
completed a Master of Music Research at the Queensland
Conservatorium, Griffith University, and holds a Doctorate from
the University of California, San Diego, where she studied with
Distinguished Professor Steven Schick. She currently serves as a
Lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University,
and is a Marimba One Education Artist.
