Benjamin Loomes, is a distinguished classical art music composer
whose work is celebrated for its depth, complexity, and emotional
resonance. Benjamin studied composition with Peter Sculthorpe,
Anne Boyd, and Ross Edwards at the University of Sydney. He has
composed a large number of instrumental and vocal works,
including two operas, orchestral and concert band music, chamber
music, choral music and art songs, and numerous solo and small
ensemble works crafted specifically for graduating performance
from senior high school.
He has received numerous commissions from schools, arts
organisations and professional ensembles.
He draws inspiration from and is deeply influenced by the
compositions of Britten, Shostakovich & Prokofiev, Pärt, and
Poulenc.
Benjamin is published by Wirripang. His work is characterized by
a strong focus on melody, harmonic warmth and richness, a
meticulous attention to detail and an ability to evoke emotion
and atmosphere through sound.
In addition to his work as a composer, Loomes is an advocate for
the arts and a mentor to emerging musicians. He is committed to
fostering a vibrant and inclusive classical music community, and
he regularly collaborates with other artists and educators to
promote the appreciation and understanding of classical music
both old and new. Benjamin served as musical director for the
groundbreaking WotOpera Project, where young people came together
to compose, stage and perform their own works.
As a singer Benjamin performed as chorus with Opera Australia,
the professional vocal ensemble Cantillation, and as soloist with
smaller companies, including Pinchgut Opera.
Benjamin is the founder and CEO of Syrinscape, an international
company bringing immersive sound and cinematic musical scores to
tabletop roleplaying and board games. This innovative venture has
gained a global following, enhancing the gaming experience for
countless enthusiasts.
Benjamin bases himself in Sydney, Australia where he lives with
his wife, Karen, and two resplendent young adults, but spends as
much time as possible in their house in Kangaroo Valley, a place
of superb natural beauty and extreme quietude which has inspired
many a melody.
