Lauren McCormick : Associate Artist

My music seeks to connect deeply with audiences by blending classical traditions with modern accessibility. I believe in the power of music to inspire and educate, especially for young listeners, and strive to create works that resonate emotionally and collaboratively.

Lauren McCormick is a contemporary composer from South Australia whose work blends neo-romanticism with modern sensibilities. Her music is deeply influenced by her commitment to accessibility and the belief that music should resonate with both performers and audiences. Often exploring themes of emotional expression and collaboration, McCormick's compositions engage with traditional forms while inviting new interpretations of classical aesthetics.

McCormick's compositional style is marked by a focus on accessibility for younger audiences, particularly through her portfolio of works created during her Master's project, "Classical Music for the Modern Child." This collection, including a piano suite for intermediate learners and a children's ballet inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's stories, demonstrates her dedication to creating pedagogically effective yet engaging music.

A graduate of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, McCormick holds a Bachelor of Music (Composition) with First Class Honours and a Master of Philosophy (Composition). She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy, where her research investigates the pedagogical practices that shape the professional development of young composers.

McCormick has received commissions from leading Australian ensembles, including the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Omega Ensemble, and the Australian String Quartet. Significant recent works include "Lake Bonney" for double wind symphony orchestra, commissioned by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and "Pilgrimage to Patroclus" for Omega Ensemble as part of their CoLAB: Composer Accelerator Program.

Through her research and compositions, McCormick aims to inspire the next generation of composers while expanding the boundaries of contemporary music and education.
